Affiliate programs that can also ruin your business...

It is know fact that affiliate marketing is the best thing to start with internet marketing career. But choosing wrong Affiliate programs can be a death blow to your online business. Most new starters think that starting with any company doesn't matter much to earn handsome returns.

The real problem in analyzing each company for its products and promoting them is not a easy task that can be done in one go. With 10's of thousands of companies, you need a buyer perspective to gauge which one to promote.

Here are the few tips for you to do before jumping in to signing for Affiliate programs:

1. Select the company you want to promote. Type in the company URL or their product in Google search and add few words like "xyz product reviews" or "good and bad reviews about xyz product" or something relevant until you get best search results. Click on search.

2. Look for any reviews on product. Open the search results in new window and carefully read about the reviews posted on that site. Make note of good and also bad points. Similarly go to next site. You can look for 5 to 6 websites which have posted their reviews about that product.

3. Analyze carefully the good and bad points about that product. Put yourself in the shoes of a "Buyer" of that product. Judge what the product can do to you if you owned one. Now check for bad ones and assume what it can do for you.

4. Now, its time for you to decide if that product is worth if you purchased. This criteria is very important in deciding the "Refund rates" of that product. If you promote a product that has more refunds than sales, you'll not only lose your sales, but also your investment if you had promoted it through PPC!

5. If the product is a software that is to be used on desktop, you should be more alert in analyzing the technical details of that product. If it is only useful to Windows users, and not for Mac, you'll end up not reaching potential customers due to its limitations.

6. Popularity: If everyone is raving about that product, you have to be more aggressive in promoting the product because of competition. Unless you're a aggressive marketer, you'll end up in no sales. It is wise to select different niches with less competition.

7. If you're just starting out, a word of caution. Internet Marketing niche is highly competitive. Use it to promote non-internet marketing niches also. You have to diversify to more than 5 to 6 niches to earn a substantial income. If you'll only focus on IM products, you may get disappointment unless you're a super affiliate.

8. Use Clickbank to promote IM and also non-IM related products. Even though there is no such yardstick to measure which product is best to promote, you can select products for your affiliate program by checking the 'Popularity' and also 'Gravity' for that product. This is just a crude method to analyze ow best is the product or service. If popularity and gravity is very less, you should avoid selling because very few will be buying it. Again use your discretion to analyze the best out of the lot as stated in points 1,2 & 3 above.

9. New products come to the market place every moment on internet! People are always curious for buying new products. If there was no sales, none would have bothered to churn out new product or service or items that attractive to their senses and also useful. Nobody would ever try to purchase pizza on internet, when its easily available from their neighborhood pizza shop! It's the same way when it comes to promote affiliate products that have no market! So be careful in understanding what people buy on internet.

10. Do not promote products intended for use for one particular person or country. You'll have to get targeted visitors for that product The result is you'll end up in more competition from others or persons selling from same country. If your market is wide and global, you can target many people and can get sales.

11. Look out for companies which have good payment processors, instant delivery of product, and ease of using the product. A digitally download able product is best for promoting. If its a physical product, verify whether it is shipped to all over the globe across countries. If it is limited to one particular country, avoid it.

Remember, affiliate marketing is really a lucrative business to start with no overheads or any kind of investment on your part. It will cost you if you choose to promote through PPC or any other paid advertising methods. Choosing the right affiliate program is the first best step you should take when trying to start as an affiliate.

If you have come across web quite long time, you've heard that you can become millionaire overnight for being an affiliate! Don't be hyped over that type of statement, again. It's not easy to get rich on internet, but if you stick on to your butt and be committed, it is not difficult to succeed as affiliate marketer. I'll post regularly on this topic.
